Exclusion criteria for breeding

Exclusion criteria for breeding

For given occasions, we have decided to explain under which conditions it is impossible to be accepted as a new breeder in our pedigree cat club.

1. “Only the cat has a pedigree, from the male we have only a vaccination certificate. How can we apply for the pedigrees for kittens?”
We constantly receive messages where, for example, only one parent has a pedigree – and pedigrees are needed for the kittens.

Basically there is only one pedigree of only 1 parent animal here. A family tree has data from at least 4 generations. Since there is no pedigree for both parents, nothing can be entered here.
Consequently, pedigrees cannot be established because there is no pedigree from BOTH parents.

2. “My cats have no pedigree, but they are purebred because their parents have pedigrees. I even have a copy in my possession. Can I now apply to you for a pedigree for my cats after the fact?”
There are at least 2 general counter-arguments for pedigree cat breeding. Firstly: The person who sold the cats bought the parents from a reputable club breeder (probably) as pets, did not have them neutered and continues to breed with them. There is a risk that the breeder does not have a breeding license with these animals and, depending on the contents of the purchase contract, may even be liable to prosecution. Secondly, the breeder himself is responsible for applying for pedigrees until the kittens are 12 weeks old. In the event of a change of ownership or expiry of the deadline, pedigrees cannot be created retrospectively.

3. “I am already in a breeding club. Both parents also have a pedigree and the kittens are about to move out. Now we have missed the reporting deadline of 8 or 12 weeks.
Can we get the pedigrees for the kittens from you after the fact?”
Each club has, should it not be affiliated to an umbrella organization, its own individual rules, which one has accepted with a membership. With us the registration period for pedigrees for a litter is up to the maximum 12 weeks of life. Subsequently, we cannot, may not and will not create pedigrees.

4. “I have my cat(s) from the breeder with all papers.
Now we would like to breed. What is the process for registering with you?”

In principle, the question here is not wrong and justified. However, if you own cats from a club breeder, you should check with your breeder if there is a breeding option for your animals, if not already done contractually. To the remark: Fancier animals cost i.d.R. 650-900€, the breeding price for cats lies depending upon race with 1200-2000 EURO clearly over this. If breeding with these animals is excluded in the purchase contract, breeding with the purchased cats is not possible. Breeding exclusion may be prohibited by the breeder for personal or important genetic reasons. Occasionally, in special cases (for genetic or breed specific reasons), clubs declare a breeding ban of some animals and also note this in the pedigree. In such a case we do not accept such pedigrees and thus breeding animals.
